Slow day at work? Let’s dance!
By Franke James, MFA
Work can get pretty boring, so how do you liven it up? Dance of course!
A crazy dance concept to entertain TV viewers worked sensationally for two traffic reporters in two different states: Jill Nicolini from the CW11 Morning News, in New York, and Bob Herzog, from WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio. Each one has gotten more than their 15-minutes of fame thanks to YouTube. The basic concept is that they entertain viewers by dancing on Friday’s — so long as there are no tragic car pileups or traffic slow-downs!
When I first heard of it I thought, “What fun! What a great use of downtime — and a terrific way to brighten everyone’s day. Really creative.”
Jill’s been doing it since 2006 and she is popular, but Bob has really caught fire with Dance Party Friday. He’s been catapulted to fame by media including the Globe and Mail, humorist blogger Glumbert, and the biggie — CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s 360. Has he caught on because seeing a pretty woman dance isn’t unusual or unexpected, but a white guy in a suit trying to dance — and spout hip hop lyrics — is funnier and kind of pathetic?
Bob and Jill have set the bar pretty high, but why not brainstorm creative use of downtime at your office? You may not get on CNN, but there’s a good chance you’ll end up having fun and return to work with a little more energy and bounce.
